Thoughts on the Eagle and Hummer painting

Kelly and I had the honor to be the subject of this panting by our friend, Kristopher Orr. I have had it as my iPad’s wallpaper for a few years now. At first, I had it up because, well, who wouldn’t want to look at a panting of themselves? Plus it’s a good piece of art. But the longer I look at it, the more I realize that Kris has captured Kelly’s and my life together. It reminds me of my personal calling as well as my relationship with Kelly.

“This is a portait of two friends of mine, Kelly and Tait. Tait has cerebral palsy and is confined to a gesture similar to this eagle. He is a published author, and brilliant thinker. May we never judge a bird by his feathers. Kelly is like this colorful humming bird flitting about around Tait, full of life and vibrant color. Thoughts going this way and that, always making sure Tait is taken care of. Together they are beautiful.” -Kristopher Orr, https://www.korrart.com/

It motivates me daily. Here are the painting’s elements that make it so special. Doesn’t it sound like me?

Eagle’s eye: The eagle’s eye is so big and focused. I have always been focused on whatever the Lord has in front of me. Whether it was training with my service dogs, getting my education, writing my books, or simply doing the hand cycle at the gym, my eye is always on the end goal.

Eagle’s wings: The way Kris has painted the eagle’s wings reminds me that I still have a disability. They are stiff and stuck just like my arms, but they get the job done. I suppose that the air and the eagle’s sharp focus is what makes it function in its environment.

Humming Bird: The humming bird is Kelly. She is so bright, beautiful and busy. It supports the eagle in its mission. Whatever the eagle needs, it knows the humming bird will help. It also aware that the humming bird has its own needs and does everything in its power to make sure they are met.

I’d like to thank Kristopher for his thoughtful painting.
